Privacy Notice
Last updated: 17 October 2026. This notice explains what we do with the information you give us through this website.
Who we are
AUS Legal is a family run legal and accountancy practice. For the purposes of UK data protection law we are the data controller for the information described here. You can reach us at auslegall@gmail.com.
What we collect through this website
When you use the enquiry form we collect the name, email address and, if you give one, the phone number you enter; the practice area you select; and whatever you write in the message box. We also record the language you were reading the site in and the date and time.
We also count visits to the site with Umami, a privacy focused analytics service. It records which pages are viewed, the site that sent you here, and your browser, type of device and country, so we can see how the site is used. It sets no cookies, does not store your IP address and cannot identify you. We rely on our legitimate interest in understanding how our website is used.
We do not use advertising trackers, and we do not profile you.
Information that needs extra care
Several of the things people come to us about mean the message box may contain sensitive information: your immigration status, a benefits or disability claim, your health, or details about your family and children. Under UK GDPR some of this is special category data and some is criminal offence data, and both carry extra protection.
Please only tell us what you need to at this stage. A few sentences is enough for us to say whether we can help and what it would involve. There is no need to send documents, reference numbers or medical details through this form, and we will ask for them properly if your matter goes further.
Why we are allowed to hold it
We handle your enquiry because you have asked us to, and because we have a legitimate interest in responding to people who contact our practice. Where your message contains special category data, we rely on the basis that it is necessary for establishing, exercising or defending legal claims, or that you have made the information public to us by choosing to send it.
Where it goes
Your enquiry is stored on this website, on our hosting in the United Kingdom. When it arrives, a copy of it, including your name, contact details and message, is also emailed to the firm’s inbox so that we can reply to you quickly. That inbox is a Gmail account, so Google holds that copy on our behalf and may process it outside the United Kingdom.
Only members of the firm who need to answer enquiries can read them, either in that inbox or by signing in to the site with an account that can read enquiries and do nothing else.
How long we keep it
Enquiries stored on this website are deleted automatically 24 months after they arrive, and we delete the email copies on the same schedule. If you become a client, the file we open for your matter is kept separately and under its own retention period, which we will tell you about at the time.
Cookies
This site sets no cookies for visitors. The language you read in is part of the page address, so nothing needs to be stored in your browser. If you sign in to the site, which only applies to staff, your browser keeps the usual session cookie.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to us holding it. Ask by emailing auslegall@gmail.com and we will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, or by calling 0303 123 1113. We would rather you came to us first so we can put it right.
A note on our regulatory status
AUS Legal provides non reserved legal services and is not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. This does not change your data protection rights, which apply to us in the same way they apply to any organisation holding your information.
